Baby Got Back!

Make it stand out

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

The Magic of Postcards: It’s All About the Back!

For me, the best part of a postcard is the back. Sure, the front is always interesting, but the real magic happens on the flip side. I adore the stories people share, whether they match the picture or not. Plus, there’s something special about seeing my name in a stranger’s handwriting from halfway around the world.

That’s why I pour my heart into making the back of my postcards a true reflection of me. I love the challenge of telling my story with carefully chosen ephemera and craft supplies. Drawing would be too easy—using stickers, 3D embellishments, and other bits and bobs forces me to get creative on a tiny canvas. Sometimes, I leave space for a message, but let’s be real—I often get so caught up in the design that there’s no room left. This week’s mail haul has a mix of both types of backs.

I’ve realized that blank backs—embellished but not yet written on—just don’t do it for me. They look sterile in photos and lack the pizzazz of a finished postcard. I want to respect my recipients’ privacy by not posting their addresses online, but I also want to show off the final product in all its glory. Next week, I’ll play with editing options for the photos, and you’ll have to let me know what you think!
